I would fly in a F5J fun fly, but with the plane I already have.
Maybe not a one of a kind contest. Just a what ever you have
contest. That one guy at NEFI beat everyone on a one minute
motor run with a 60" trainer plane.shock

I'm all for a F5J event. Building a new design is ok for those that don't have this type of plane but I'm with Doug. Several of us already have planes specifically bought for this type of event. Why make them buy something else?
I ran several contests a couple years ago and enjoyed it but we need others to jump in and share the responsibility. Its not hard to run one, just decide on the format and go. Other formats could be played with such as in a F3B contest where you do a speed run and a thermal run. I volunteer to run at least one. (you don't have to be a Contest Director to do a club event.)
The power systems have to be closely matched. We would have to decide to allow brushless motors or not and lipos vs nicads/ NiMh.

I too have a plane and would suggest sticking to the old rules which were something like, any plane, any size, cheap 400 motor and 8 cells. Even with that set up a one minute run was more than I needed to get specked out, so keep it simple and cheap, no lipo's or brushless...Steve

haha... that means I have to spend money to buy some NiMh packs... LOL... agree on the format... Not everyone has a plane though... I'm gonna cut a cheepy balsa bird to fly if we can get a group together a few days over the summer to do some "club contest".

I had a blast flying my Yard Stick in the last "F5J" contest we did.... :)

I updated the poll... to clarify that any plane meeting F5J basic rules is good to fly... but still wondering if anyone in the club would like to do some building as a group for fun.

Hey, it's winter here! What, you gonna go fly? devilishconfused

I sold my f5j plane to Wheeler to fly in Arazona - it probably is in Mexico now!

I would be happy to time for anyone during the f5j rounds. After the f5j how about a fly what you brought no limitations beyond electric propeller/EDF power only, last person down or sundown which ever comes first wins?
